For Flint Hills festival, artists to share craft

As part of the Flint Hills International Children’s Festival, international and area musicians, theater artists and puppeteers will host free workshops Thursday about the creative process in their work. The music and theater workshops will take place in Rice Park, the puppetry workshop will be in the Ordway Center lobby and a street art demonstration will be held on Market Street, next to Landmark Plaza. All the Thursday events will run from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. On Friday, a dance workshop will run from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Washington Street outside the Ordway. Registration is required. Annual vigil: To honor the victims and survivors of those harmed by drunken drivers, Mothers Against Drunk Driving will sponsor its annual Victim Vigil at 10 a.m. Saturday at Como Lakeside Pavilion.

Falcon Heights

Quilting camp: Quilter Cyndi Kaye Meier will lead a youth creative quilting camp beginning June 12. The five-day camp, sponsored by Falcon Heights Parks and Recreation, is designed for ages 9 to 13. Summer kickoff: The Maplewood Park and Recreation Department’s fifth annual All Star Summer Kickoff will be Saturday at the Maplewood Community Center. Summer ballet class: Beginning Tuesday, Zachari’s Ballerinas will offer ballet lessons at North Presbyterian Church, 2675 E. Minnesota 36. The eight-week program for preballet students (age 4 and older) runs from noon to 12:30 p.m. Ballet lessons for age 7 and older run from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays. Cost is $30 for preballet class and $50 for ballet. Classes also are offered at Dayton’s Bluff Rec Center in St. Paul. Calling artists: Entries are sought from artists interested in displaying their work during the annual RoseArts Festival, sponsored by the Ramsey Center for Arts. The event, to be held July 1-2, will be in Roseville’s Central Park, 2540 N. Lexington Ave. The deadline for submitting slides, photos or digital images is Thursday. A large tent will be available to the first 15 artists requesting it.

Summer camp: Rosetown Playhouse, a Roseville-based community theater group, is accepting applications for its annual SummerArts Day Camp for ages 8 to 13. Participants will learn about the performing arts and script writing during the camp, which runs from June 12 to July 1 at Central Park. Hours are 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Art exhibit: The Lawshe Memorial Museum will present a student art show, “Something to Crow About,” beginning Saturday. The opening reception runs from 1 to 3 p.m. at the museum,130 Third Ave. N., South St. Paul. The show includes original watercolors by more than 20 students from throughout Dakota County. Annual family fest: Washington County Parks will host the fifth annual Family Festival from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at Lake Elmo Park Reserve. The event features a family-fun walk/run, live music, a petting zoo, puppet show, magician, free crafts for kids and healthy-living exhibits. The walk/run (1K and 5K) begins at 10 a.m. Call 651-430-6655 to register for the walk/run. As part of Washington County’s annual Explore Your Parks Day, vehicle permits will not be required.
