Nusantara Craft 2006
June 29- July 3 In its fourth year, the “Nusantara Craft 2006” event showcases work from 75 craftsmen and women from Malaysia, Indonesia and Brunei. Exhibition and sales aside, the event also features craft-making demonstrations and cultural performances. Visitors will get to check out batik-painting (using natural dye) and weaving workshops. From 9am till 8pm, daily. Free admission.

Studio PENA art showcase
Till July 1 Organised by PENA Art gallery and Alliance Francaise, the exhibition features wood and ceramic artwork from PENA artists like Abdul Mansoor Ibrahim, Mohamad Puzi Ahmad and Helen Betlem. The PENA art group produces artwork in line with the concept of Malay culture, thoughts and way of life. Exhibition hours: 11am to 7pm, daily. Free admission.

10 months 10 films
Today Catch 10 short films in two screenings in “10 months 10 films,” a programme made in the Centre for Development and Assistance of Movie Talents (TPD) by talented filmmakers. Jointly organised by The Malaysian Film Club and the Vietnam Cinema Association, the programme aims to show one of TPD’s projects designed to provide technical filmmaking skills and know-how to budding filmmakers. Screening times are from 3.30pm-5pm, and 5.30pm to 7pm. Admission is free.

What’s Eating Gilbert Grape
June 26 One of the all-time cult favourites with film buffs, Gilbert Grape is a tale of Gilbert (Johnny Depp) who lives in a small town with his 500-pound mother (Darlene Cates), autistic brother (Leonardo DiCaprio) and his sisters.
Show starts at 8pm. Admission fees: RM40 for four-month trial membership; RM60/annual membership. Entrance is free for Alliance Francaise members.

MY Orchestra audition
July 1 Students, aged 13-19, are invited to take part in an audition to join the newly launched “MY Orchestra” (Malaysian Youth Orchestra), an initiative by Kolej Tuanku Ja’afar, Negri Sembilan.
MY Orchestra will represent Malaysia at the Bonyi International Youth Music Festival in Brisbane, Australia in July 2007.
The audition begins at 10am and ends at 2pm.

Happy Days
Till July 1 Described as Samuel Beckett’s most cheerful work and his “song of rue,” the absurdist drama Happy Days is full of warm and tender humour. It explores Beckett’s obsession with language, existence, memory, theatricality and communication. Shows start at 8.30pm; 3pm (June 25). Tickets priced at RM30 (matinee), RM40 and RM20 (students).

Au naturel - exploring the human figure
