Handicraft Sale & Exhibition in Bandar Seri Begawan
In conjunction with the 60th birthday celebrations of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, the Handicraft Sale and Exhibition is now being held at the Brunei Arts and Handicrafts Training Centre in Jalan Residency, Bandar Seri Begawan.
From the five courses offered at the centre - weaving, silversmithing, wood carving, brass smithing and basketry & songkok making - the exhibition showcases original Brunei arts and handicrafts.
The traditional `train jongsarat’, a masterfully woven cloth with intricate traditional geometrical illustrations using gold thread, is the most sought after item. The most expensive ‘kain jongsarat’ is the ‘kain silubang bangsi berpekan’ design, which normally fetches a price of $2,070, is now for sale at $1,800.
The exhibition, open from 8am to 5pm, will be open until Sunday.
