Image Craft closes doors

The competition for local jobs is about to get a little more stiff now that 550 people are out of work.

Cambridge greeting card maker Image Craft Inc. closed its doors on Friday after owner Paramount Cards Holding Corp. declared it could not continue to meet operating costs.

Four-month employee Brenda Hagey went to work on Friday afternoon, only to find the doors to Image Craft locked.

“All employees are out of a job,” she said. “I had a bit of warning though.”

Hagey had spoken to a co-worker on the earlier shift before she went into work.

Her co-worker told Hagey that staff had circulated notices expessing the fact that the company could no longer afford to maintain its operations.

Employees were instructed to gather their belongings and

and return to their homes.

“I wanted to make sure it was a done deal,” Hagey said, “so I went in. When we went out there, everything was locked up.”

As shocked as she was to hear the news, Hagey said she had no hard feelings with regards to Image Craft.

“It was an excellent company to work for,” she said. “And they were just as in shock in the office as we were on the floor. But they made sure we were paid up. They even paid us for Friday and we didn’t work.”

Hagey said staff at Image Craft were very good to their employees, treating everyone with respect.

“It was an amazing company,” she said. “They were so wonderful to their employees. They handled it the best they could in a tough situation.”

Image Craft Inc. staff was unavailable for comment.
