Handicraft exposition, fashion show in November

The Division of Community Development and Culture will stage a handicraft exposition, fashion and flare as well as a flag hoisting ceremony with an economic benefit later this year.

Community Development and Culture Secretary Cynthia Alfred said the groundwork for these events was laid about a month ago with the distribution of information to over 11,500 households in the island. She said stage two would involve registration of the participants in the events.

Alfred who was speaking at the post Executive Council media briefing last week Thursday said over the past year handicraft had taken a down turn and therefore the Division had decided to revive the industry by having the exposition. She said the finals of the handicraft exposition would be held on October 29.

Alfred disclosed that the Fashion and Flare event would be held on November 18 and 19 at the Signal Hill Secondary Comprehensive and the Division was inviting as many persons as possible in Tobago and from Tobago to participate in the event.

She noted that over the past six years the Division had hosted a Flag Hoisting ceremony when villages would design their own flag and this would be held on December 1.

She said to cap it all there would be a grand market from December 4 to 15 of the very products exhibited during the events. “We want to encourage Tobagonians to support Tobagonians for Christmas,” she added.

Registration of participants started on Monday at various venues in the villages and ends at the Fairfield Complex next week Friday.
