Specialist furniture store joins David Morgan development

A £14M retail and luxury residential scheme at the former David Morgan department store in Cardiff has signed up two new tenants.

Rossiters and Moss Bros have joined the project’s anchor tenant Borders - the book and music retailer.

Rossiters of Bath is a specialist furniture and home furnishings retailer.

Borders has already agreed a 26,000 sq ft letting at the scheme, spearheaded by Helical Bar.

Menswear retailer Moss Bros has taken a unit, comprising 12,000 sq ft, over ground and first floors - on a new 10-year lease at a rent of £200,000 a year.

Rossiters, the design-led department store, has taken a unit in the south building of the scheme.

Its space will comprise 13,600 sq ft over ground and basement floors, on a new 10-year lease at a rent of £135,000 per annum.

The Borders store will feature a Starbucks cafe and is expected to open earlier and close later than other book shops.

Features will include a quiet glass-walled reading room and a large Welsh language selection.

The transformation of the former David Morgan is scheduled for completion in January next year.

All of the scheme’s 56 one and two- bedroom apartments were sold within an hour of being put on the market.

One investor bought 10 of the properties in the Victorian building, as buyers splashed out more than £10m on the apartments costing between £150,000 and £250,000.
