The interior design of yachts and cruisers takes centre stage at Seatec 2007, the international exhibition of shipbuilding technology, due in Marina di Carrara from 1st to 3rd February 2007.
Last year, Seatec opened the doors for the very first time to the world of interior design, to the acclaim of the operators, and decided to give even more space to the interior design of ships and super-yachts in the exhibition area known as “Abitare il Mare”.
The 1200-square-metre exhibition area fitted out in Hall D for “Abitare il Mare” will host the Italian companies that offer the very best of design in the manufacture of tables, chairs, upholstered furniture, beds and interior decoration. The “Abitare il Mare” exhibition area will be completed by Milan’s Art Book Triennial, an international bookshop specialising in urban landscaping, design and architecture which had already taken part in the exhibition of 2006, by the agora, a place where exhibitors, ship-owners and designers can meet and exchange opinions, life-size models of the designs that have won the second Furniture Design Award and an exhibition of the winners of the fourth MYDA – Millennium Yacht Design Award on 1st February 2006.
The super-yacht world is using more and more mass-produced interior decoration items designed by the greatest names of design to furnish their boats, in a sort of seamless transition from ‘home to boat’. This concept is the inspiration behind the second Furniture Design Award, organised by CarraraFiere to match with the marine world those companies that offer the very best of design in the manufacture of tables, chairs, upholstered furniture, beds and interior decoration,
The competition, open to Italian and foreign companies, focuses on the arrangement of on-board living spaces. The award consists of two sections: the design of a ship-owner’s cabin on a 20-metre fly-bridge motor-yacht and the design of a lounge bar on a cruiser.
The jury, composed of authoritative members of the academic world, industry and design, will give the awards to the two categories on Friday 2nd February during the “Abitare il Mare” Day.
The award-giving ceremony will be followed by a conference about ”The quality of life on board”, something the modern ship-owner is now increasingly concerned about. The speakers will include some of the best names of the marine, fashion, culture and design worlds.
At the first Furniture Design Award, the prize for best hall on a 20-metre motor-yacht was won by Rossi di Albizzate Spa with a design by Emanuela Venturini and Marcello Albini, while Giovannetti Collezioni d’Arredamento won the section for the best design of a cruiser cabin, designed by Sandro Santantonio.
