Professionals urged to reject sub-standard building materials
Professionals in the building and construction industry have been adviced against the use of sub-standard materials in building construction as may be demanded by property owners.
The Managing Director of Ntuzu Property Investments, Mr. Ozurinah Amos made the call during an interview with The Tide in Port Harcourt last week.
He said that a property owner who wants to cut down cost may desire to approach personnel’s handling this project to use sub-standard materials.
Amos stated that they may not be knowledgeable about the danger of their request, pointing out that the professional has the right to explain to them the demerit of their demand.
However, it is also necessary to explain to the property owner that the use of sub-standard materials is most cost effective in the long run and as well as to the detriment of the people and government, he said.
Any professional handling a building project must consider it necessary to effectively superivise every stage of the work the managing director noted.
It is very important that a qualified professional must insist on the use of standard mateials that would help to prove his expertise and experience which is expected to withstand the test of time he stated.
Amos said that no professional’s code of conduct permits anybody on the use of unwhole some materials in building construction, adding that any person found to be indulged in such practice is a criminal.
He lamented that government and the people of Nigeria have suffered incessant occurrence of building collapse in recent times and wished such incidence does not repeat itself.
