Spring usually means change and renewing. And one of the most important places that people prefer to change is the place where you spend most of your time: your home.

Although interior decorating is a passion for some and a duty for others, you can completely change the appearance of your home with just a few but effective touches. If you’d like to recreate your home but don’t know what the golden rules are for a magnificent make-over, then keep reading. This article will provide you with the tips and tricks on how to redecorate your home.

Some experts believe that the only rule of home decorating is that there are no rules. But there are still a few tips that one should keep in the back of their mind when decorating. These tips have been accepted by many and are the primary elements in interior decorating.

First off, you should be very selective about your furniture because furniture styles can change every season. There are a few tips that should be considered regardless of what color, pattern or shape is in style.

The most important part of choosing furniture is to make sure that it is comfortable and useful. The most popular alternatives in recent years have been L-shaped and big puffy couches. Also consider the quality and durability of the furniture, especially since furniture is not changed very often. Bad quality or nondurable furniture will have a higher price in the long run for its owner.

Furniture to be used in a big living room does not have to be a set. You can use different furniture that matches the colors of the walls and floors. For example, you can place an armchair of your choosing next to your sofa. As long as you make sure they match, you can decorate your home without having to limit yourself in the least. It’s also very important that you don’t purchase furniture you will not use because such furniture will make your home crowded and create problems the next time you redecorate your home. The next factor in decorating is the lighting. Lighting can affect the look of your house and you psychologically more than you may think. If a room does not receive enough daylight, buy lighting fixtures; either a ceiling light or a lamp. Your home should be decorated in a way that does not prevent the sunlight from entering. Once the sun sets, lighting fixtures that won’t tire the eyes can be used. You can decorate your room with an elegant chandelier or accessorize with lamps in the corner. When buying and placing your lighting fixture, also consider the type of affect it will have on the color and appearance of your room.

With everything you do, from buying couches to rugs, from accessories to furniture, from wall paint to curtain the one thing you must always consider is the color theme. You will have to choose your color theme according to the size and brightness of your room. Choose lighter tones instead of dark and shiny colors. Don’t forget that colors also affect a person’s mood. Yellow, green, orange, blue and white make a person feel happy and peaceful. Dark yellow, orange, red and brown colors make a room appear warm and cozy. Bright colors like mustard yellow and pink are no longer preferred because they can exhaust the eye. You can make your smaller rooms appear bigger if the color of the floors and the walls match. You can provide the same feeling with mirrors and accessories that are shorter and have horizontal patterns.

Along with these tips, it is equally as important that you decorate your home according to your lifestyle. You should consider the number of people that live in the house, how often what room is used and your personal organization.

Interior decorators highlight that people who want redecorate their home should seek professional help. Ergin Tonyalı, the owner of EMT Decoration in İstanbul, says decoration is an area of expertise that requires meticulousness.

Describing the changing nature of interior styles, Tonyalı said: “I’ve been working in interior decorating for 25 years. We can redecorate the entire house of our clients within two months. We have the best experts in the field and we choose the best quality material when decorating. When people prefer to redecorate their home by themselves, they usually can’t finish in less then six months and can’t find good workers or material.” He also added that people usually prefer to change their interior design after eight or 10 years.
