With rising energy prices and a growing demand for eco-friendly construction, more and more people are coming around to round homes.

When Yosh Schulman and his wife, Nili Simhai, decided to find an environmentally friendly option for their new home in Millerton, N.Y., they chose a prefabricated circular home for some of those specific reasons.

“My wife runs an environmental education center, so we wanted a home that made wise use of natural resources,” says Schulman. “Circular homes use fewer building materials. Their footprint’s impact on the environment is minimal. There are heating and cooling benefits, as well.”

On Saturdays and most evenings after her regular job ends, Miranda Eller can be found doing various jobs at home building site near Warne.

another job where she’s been putting in at least 15 hours

week for several months, and

all volunteer. Miranda’s payoff will come this August, when she and her son move into a brand spanking new house. One that she’s helped build from the ground up. Miranda has had help from six other families who are also building houses, and she has helped them by working their houses. Building Green Made Easier with New Roadmap

Newswise — Looking to build with an environmentally smart and friendly approach? A University of Oregon professor has pooled virtually all available resources, including color images and diagrams, to help a designer pursue both passive and energy-efficient strategies.

The book – The Green Studio Handbook: Environmental Strategies for Schematic Design (Architectural Press) – is not intended to serve as a green building checklist nor as a textbook for environmental technology, says Alison G. Kwok, a UO professor of architecture. “Instead it provides the necessary information to make judgments about the appropriate use of green strategies and to validate design decisions regarding these strategies,” wrote Kwok and co-author Walter T. Merchandiser busy preparing furniture retailer for grand opening

Days before the grand opening of the new Ashley Furniture Homestore at Southridge Center, designer Jamie McCormick and others were wheeling grocery carts filled with accessories through the place.

With the help of two designers from the company’s corporate headquarters in Wisconsin and a couple more designers from the Memphis stores, McCormick started at the front of the store placing items that would likely match the theme of the furniture placement.

“After finishing up in the front part of the store, we would push the carts to the outer aisles of the store, finally finishing in the middle,” he said. “As our carts would empty, we’d go back to where we’d put the accessories, load up the carts again and start all over. Read more…

Trump digs into furniture

Thomasville, North Carolina - Real estate tycoon Donald Trump has made his fortune building homes. Now he wants to furnish them.

On Tuesday, he unveiled his line of home furnishings and upholstery, Trump Home, to 350 furniture buyers, and said no subject was off limits.

“We can talk sex, home building. Home building is a big factor when it comes to your business,” he said. “We can talk about other name brands or the competition.”

Burglars wreck furniture

BURGLARS smashed glass jars on the kitchen floor and poured milk over two sofas at a house in Rugby before stealing jewellery, electrical equipment and champagne.

They forced a panel in the back door to get into the house, in Rowland Street, sometime between 4.30pm and 7.40pm on Friday, March 9.
