Italian firms bring home, office furnishings to Qatar
Consorzio Nuovi Mercati, a body of Federlegno-Arredo, the Italian Federation of furniture and furnishing manufacturers is introducing to the demanding visitors of the Gulf area a selection of leading Italian companies producing home, contract, office, bathroom furniture as well as lighting appliances all featuring the aesthetics and functionality that have contributed to the success of “Made in Italy” on international markets.
FontanaArte, Gervasoni, Matteograssi, Paola Lenti, Regia, Rexite, Tonon are some of the member companies which joined the successfull “Middle East Project 2007″ organised by Consorzio Nuovi Mercati and displayed in Qatar last April at Qatar International Exhibition Centre (QIEC) and Bahrain in the most important furniture and furnishing exhibition.
Today the leadership of the Italian furniture industry has been achieved thanks to a strong expansion rate of the international market which is the result of its manufacturing culture. Evidence of this success is given by the number of operators, 410.000 over all, who contributed to achieve total sales amounting to 37 billion euros (over $45) in 2006, out of which more than 32 per cent overseas.
Italian furniture export to the Middle East, including Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, the West Bank, UAE, Jordan, Iran, Iraq, Kuwait, Lebanon, Oman, Syria, Yemen totaled 27.8bn Euro from January to November last year alone.
The Italian furniture sector is distinguished by the quality of Italian design which combines tradition as well as experimentation and innovation resulting from major investments in technology both for the manufacturing processes and for the product.
In this specific sector in Italy, large sums are invested in research and innovation; many companies allocate large percentages of their revenues to these areas, and some companies have been created specifically to provide the results of their research to third parties.
Investments in technology have led to the creation of large production units through a peculiar organisation based on decentralisation of the upstream processes, the use of sophisticated techniques based on the pre-assembly of standardised components and greater attention to industrial design. By striving after these objectives, even the small companies have managed to enjoy considerable economic success.
