Denise Little decorates her Troy home to showcase art — her art, her daughter’s art, her granddaughter’s art and the art of prominent artists such as Tom Palazzolo, Barry Rowe, John Glick and Camillo Pardo.
“My passion is art, so my approach to interior design is to not let my decor interfere with my art,” says Little, who is a painter, patron of the arts and promoter of artists.

BOB BEITCHER says he and his wife, Carol, want their newly built home in Santa Monica to be a showcase of sustainable practices “without being granola-y, if you know what I mean.”
Their house off San Vicente Boulevard has been carefully designed by architect Warren Wagner to optimize solar energy and the use of recycled and renewable materials. Yet the modernist dwelling seems more about the panache of architectural possibilities than the virtuousness of green design.

HIGH POINT — With the flat-panel television boom showing no signs of fading, producers of entertainment furniture will have their showrooms fully stocked with new product at this week’s market.
Exhibitors say home entertainment is one of the few categories that has remained fairly robust during the furniture industry’s recent slump, and most believe the upward momentum still has at least another year or two to run.
They note that, despite the almost daily bombardment of ads from electronics stores and TV manufacturers, the majority of American households still don’t have a flat-panel set.

If you live in a small home, you have to be flexible. This is especially true when it comes to preconceived notions about how a particular room is supposed to look or be used. If you grew up with fixed ideas, such as that a living room should contain a sofa and two side chairs with two identical end tables and a matching coffee table, you need to learn to let that go.
I recently visited a client who lives in a 900-square-foot condominium with generous patio space that transforms the unit into a much more expansive visual area. She was fretting over a wonderful but quite large old wood desk that she had snuggled into a garden window outcropping at one end of her living room. (more…)
