Days before the grand opening of the new Ashley Furniture Homestore at Southridge Center, designer Jamie McCormick and others were wheeling grocery carts filled with accessories through the place.

With the help of two designers from the company’s corporate headquarters in Wisconsin and a couple more designers from the Memphis stores, McCormick started at the front of the store placing items that would likely match the theme of the furniture placement.

“After finishing up in the front part of the store, we would push the carts to the outer aisles of the store, finally finishing in the middle,” he said. “As our carts would empty, we’d go back to where we’d put the accessories, load up the carts again and start all over. (more…)

At sunset on Saturday, June 2, 2007, the Royal Ontario Museum will hold its official Architectural Opening & Building Dedication – a free public event to celebrate the construction completion of the Michael Lee-Chin Crystal. On this historic occasion, Governor General Michaëlle Jean will officially open the dramatic new wing of the Museum, named in honour of Michael Lee-Chin, whose lead donation of $30 million launched the Renaissance ROM expansion project. The Lee-Chin Crystal will then open to the public for the first time, with free admission overnight and through Sunday, June 3rd. Seven spectacular gallery spaces on four floors, two special exhibitions, new retail and dining facilities, and the Museum’s new main entrance will open on June 2nd following the opening celebrations. You could say that interior designer Katharine Pooley fell into her career by accident. In 2003, she took on the task of improving the interior of her family’s holiday home in Scotland as a personal project. The following year, she repeated the task when she bought and redecorated two upmarket holiday lets: one in Thailand and the other in Colorado, in America.

It was only when friends, family and holiday guests kept pestering her about where she had found the eclectic designer accessories and furniture she had used that Pooley decided to open an interior design shop in Chelsea, west London, in October 2004, and to set up a business carrying out refurbishment projects for wealthy clients. She won two design awards the following year, establishing her reputation. (more…)

DENVER — The exuberant, blossoming, titanium-clad museum designed by architect Daniel Libeskind is a brilliant container for art and a stunning work itself.

The Denver Art Museum’s new Frederic C. Hamilton Building opens Oct. 7, and has already achieved national prominence with attention from the likes of Time, Newsweek, Vanity Fair and The New York Times.

This project is the most important structure to open in the Mile High City since its predecessor, Gio Ponti’s original museum building, debuted 35 years ago. (more…)
