HIGH POINT — With the flat-panel television boom showing no signs of fading, producers of entertainment furniture will have their showrooms fully stocked with new product at this week’s market.

Exhibitors say home entertainment is one of the few categories that has remained fairly robust during the furniture industry’s recent slump, and most believe the upward momentum still has at least another year or two to run.

They note that, despite the almost daily bombardment of ads from electronics stores and TV manufacturers, the majority of American households still don’t have a flat-panel set.

Driving down U. S. Highway 71 Business, it’s hard to tell where Rogers ends and Bentonville begins. And with so much growth, very few original structures remain on South Walton Boulevard.

But hidden between the new banks, strip malls and towering hotels, three stone buildings are standing tall — a rocky reminder of Bentonville’s past.

Once hidden in an overgrowth of small trees and shrubs, the two stone houses at the corner of South Walton and L Street now resemble a French farmhouse surrounded by a vibrant old-world garden. (more…)
