home interior designMuch like we can expect from the American people in next year’s election, the votes among the nation’s top interior designers and manufacturers are split when it comes to forecasting what will be “hot” in home decor in 2008.

The good news is that there’s no mudslinging or veto power. In fact, design bipartisanship is encouraged, as it results in a myriad of choices for today’s style- and value-conscious consumers.

Some of Hollywood’s celebrities are using the murals from Murals Your Way like Madonna, Julianne Moore and Woody Harrelson. (more…)

And consumers are happily going along.

“The look and feel of natural products really resonates with customers,” says Alex Bates, senior vice president of product development for West Elm, the home-furnishings retailer whose current catalog is filled with animal-patterned fabrics, tree-stump tables, wood-imprinted carpets and an antler-inspired lamp that has become a runaway big seller. “It’s a lot of borrowing of and being inspired by natural patterns and textures,” she says. “There’s definitely a connection between the growing popularity and concern with environmental issues and respect for the natural world.” (more…)

Bathroom storage has evolved from over-the-toilet shelves to today’s sophisticated furniture pieces with pullout drawers and removable trays.

It’s a response to a common dilemma facing homeowners with new or newly remodeled bathrooms: How to provide bathroom storage without sacrificing style.

“In contemporary bathrooms with the sink mounted to the wall, there’s no place to put anything, said Kurt Schnakenberg, vice president of sales for Chicago Brass, a wholesale dealer in Highwood. “It looks great, but living (with) that bath doesn’t work because you can’t perform your daily activities in there.” (more…)
