    After shopping at different stores, all that the 43-year-old San Francisco resident could find was furniture made with a “5-feet-10-inch man in mind.” Long, who is 5-feet-six, ended up doing a lot of improvising, buying bookcases from Crate & Barrel and inheriting a reddish gold wood desk from the last office tenant.

    “Everything is too masculine, edgy, too modern, and heavy on the metal,” said Long, who runs a management consulting business.

    Home-furnishing lines are reflecting the same Latino influence showing up in home design lately.

    Among those already out there are the Casa Cristina collections of furniture and home furnishings, brand-named for the Cuban-born media personality Cristina Saralegui. Since 1989 she’s been the multiple-Emmy winning host of ‘‘The Christina Show,’’ her Spanish-language TV talk show on Univision, and she also has a radio show and a monthly magazine.

    ‘‘With the emergence of Latin-based decor,’’ the Miami-based Saralegui said in an e-mail exchange, ‘‘we are seeing a vibrant mix of bright colors, dark tones and brilliant shades of white to accent the overall look. These designs reflect heritage, and Latin decor brings with it a lovely array of floral and energetic patterns combined with textured elements, wrought iron and unique details, such as terra cotta.’’

    Casa Cristina sheet sets, bedding sets, bath and decorated towels and table linens have mainstream distribution — they are now sold, exclusively, at Kohl’s department stores nationwide.     In the process, he’s become a key tastemaker in home-decor and fashion circles, selling not just style but lifestyle, mood, attitude.

    “I heard people talking about him before … and then I walked past his store,” says Jill Kaiser, producer for Philadelphia-area TV reality series “On a Date.” Kaiser handpicked Izzo to dress the show’s host, Angela Tsai.
