They were the first to build on the hill at Point Lookout and they wanted a home that was worthy of the dreamy location. The couple’s brief to architect Tim Guymer, who designed the award-winning Kingfisher Bay Resort on Fraser Island, was to meld outdoor/indoor living areas, ensure every room took advantage of the view and to include high ceilings.
The result, modelled on the distinctive shape of a nautilus shell, was Shell House, a timeless design that has become a Straddie landmark. During an open house to market the property, Wendy overheard a visitor whispering into her mobile phone: “You’ll never guess where I am!”

Homeowners and renters seeking inspiration or innovation will find a blueprint for change at the Fall Richmond Home Show today and tomorrow at the Richmond Raceway Complex.
“The biggest attribute and ‘must-see’ advantage to the home show is variety,” said Anthony Tedesco, manager of the show.
Exhibits include the latest in home theaters, kitchen appliances, bathroom fixtures, building materials, interior design concepts, garage and closet organizers, custom doors and windows, flooring, sunrooms, pools and spas.

Ten-foot doors that slide into the walls, opening the great room to the back deck. Windows that turn from clear glass to opaque with the click of a button. A touch-screen panel that pipes music through speakers throughout the house.
Meanwhile, robotics mop the floor, vacuum the carpets and mow the lawn, while George sips coffee and checks the stock market on what looks like a decorative ball.
