With a mixture of old and new, Pierre-area native Rick Jensen and his wife, Ana, are embarking upon the massive project of converting one of Pierre’s most historic homes into a bed and breakfast.

The home, currently located on East Wynoka Street, served as the governor’s mansion for Gov. Peter Norbeck from 1917-1921, and was completely restored, beginning in 1993, by former owners Dr. Kelly and Cynthia Krizan. (more…)

Q: My husband and I recently bought our first house together in San Jose. It is a small, Spanish-style bungalow built in 1926, with plenty of charm but short on space. The living room presents a decorating challenge because of the small room, four doorways and a diagonal path from the front door to the dining room and kitchen. We intend to use this room as a living, family, TV and music room and perhaps also as a library. One quandary is the placement of our flat-screen TV. Two obvious options are the front corner or along the wall opposite the fireplace. We would like seating for about six to eight people, and we have no furniture to work around. The floors are picture-framed hardwoods, and we have several beautiful area carpets from our travels overseas. (more…)
