Designed by aptly named architecture firm Superkul, the luxury Shift Cottage located on Canada’s Georgian Bay is super-cool, to say the least. The calm, uncomplicated characteristic of this northern Ontario setting sets the tone for this modern 2,000-sq.-ft. haven of rest and relaxation. The island cottage sits on the rocky terrain of the Canadian Shield, the subject of many Group of Seven masterpieces, and this idyllic location has too inspired the architects in designing this rustic home of quiet luxuries. SIX OF Canada’s noted TV design personalities translated their talents for decor from the small screen into a live showcase, crafting personalized spaces celebrating the latest in trends, ideas and products in interior design.
Brian Gluckstein, The Designer Guys (Allen Chan, Matt Davis, Anwar Mukhayesh), Sarah Richardson and Lynda Reeves were each tasked with creating distinctive living spaces measuring around 70 square metres backing onto a common courtyard.
Their creations were featured at last week’s Toronto’s Interior Design Show.
“I took the challenge as being something that would in some way reach out to the viewers, reach out to the public, and be an expression of who we are,” said Richardson, host of HGTV Canada’s Design Inc., and Sarah’s House. (more…)
At sunset on Saturday, June 2, 2007, the Royal Ontario Museum will hold its official Architectural Opening & Building Dedication – a free public event to celebrate the construction completion of the Michael Lee-Chin Crystal. On this historic occasion, Governor General Michaëlle Jean will officially open the dramatic new wing of the Museum, named in honour of Michael Lee-Chin, whose lead donation of $30 million launched the Renaissance ROM expansion project. The Lee-Chin Crystal will then open to the public for the first time, with free admission overnight and through Sunday, June 3rd. Seven spectacular gallery spaces on four floors, two special exhibitions, new retail and dining facilities, and the Museum’s new main entrance will open on June 2nd following the opening celebrations.
