Their house off San Vicente Boulevard has been carefully designed by architect Warren Wagner to optimize solar energy and the use of recycled and renewable materials. Yet the modernist dwelling seems more about the panache of architectural possibilities than the virtuousness of green design.

They’re all ways Fort Wayne-area home builders are trying to attract buyers these days.
It’s no secret that, nationally and locally, the market for new houses has hit something of a slump – the annual pace of sales nationally was down 14.5 percent at the end of September, according to the latest report by the National Association of Homebuilders. The number of new home permits in Allen County is down nearly 40 percent from where it stood at the end of October in 2005. That amounts to about $10 million less in building value to go around.
