When Jack Mitchell meets a potential client, his eyes pass over everything from what the client collects to how he or she dresses. He does not hold back when he sees something that won’t work, though he shows more restraint when it comes to pointing out fashion faux pas.
“If they wear silk, I will put them in silk,” he said in his rich Southern drawl on a recent morning in his new studio, aptly named Jack Mitchell Design, on University Drive. “I can’t kiss up nor do I lie,” he said with a grin.

university third-year interior design students worked in pairs last semester to create culturally sensitive living arrangements for the Ojibwe and Hmong cultures, prevalent and growing cultural groups in the Twin Cities area.
The groups presented designs of an entire living community on display at the Hennepin History Museum through June 3.
Professor Tasoulla Hadjiyanni said this is the third year she brought her research findings about cultural needs in housing into her design classes. (more…)
