Bathroom storage has evolved from over-the-toilet shelves to today’s sophisticated furniture pieces with pullout drawers and removable trays.
It’s a response to a common dilemma facing homeowners with new or newly remodeled bathrooms: How to provide bathroom storage without sacrificing style.

THE phrase “bachelor pad” may evoke shag rugs, an oversize bed and an overwrought and conspicuous sound system — or perhaps for the contemporary bachelor, coolly minimalist modular seating, an oversize bed and an overwrought and inconspicuous sound system.
But two young New York bachelors, one in real estate, one a designer, have found new ways to mark their territories.
One has suspended furniture from the ceiling and steadied it with cables; even the fishbowl hangs from above. The other has placed furniture, electronics and plumbing fixtures on wheels, sometimes encased in vitrines. New Zealand’s new premier decorative arts and design gallery, the Blumhardt Galley, will be designed by Wellington’s Kebbell Daish with industrial designers Robbie Greig and Bernd Benninghoff, the winners of a national competition to design the interior.
A partnership between the Blumhardt Foundation and The Dowse in Lower Hutt, the gallery is scheduled to open in February as part of The Dowse’s major redevelopment designed by Athfield Architects.
The Blumhardt Foundation was established in 2004 by acclaimed potter Dr Doreen Blumhardt, to collect and display the best examples of applied arts and design and promote educational opportunities for young and established artists and designers. (more…)
