Modern loft interior design should create a functional and comfortable floor plan with spaces for relaxation, entertaining, storage, and working. These different loft living areas can then be defined with room dividers, rugs, or furniture. It’s not always easy to see the value of the things around you.
As a kid in this city in the 1960s, I was surrounded by modern architecture.
I grew up in Valleyview, surrounded by avant-garde homes, one-of-a-kind works of modernism designed by some of the city’s leading architects.
I went to Ross Sheppard High School, star-gazed at the planetarium, took swimming lessons at Coronation Pool, shopped at the Bay downtown, saw movies at the Paramount and the Garneau, went to bar mitzvahs at the Beth Shalom synagogue.
I didn’t know it at the time, but my Edmonton was actually a laboratory for modern design. Our postwar oil boom made this city a perfect laboratory for architectural experimentation. We were building a new city, with money and brashness to burn. Architects gathered here, some (more…)
Denise Little decorates her Troy home to showcase art — her art, her daughter’s art, her granddaughter’s art and the art of prominent artists such as Tom Palazzolo, Barry Rowe, John Glick and Camillo Pardo.
“My passion is art, so my approach to interior design is to not let my decor interfere with my art,” says Little, who is a painter, patron of the arts and promoter of artists.

Custom-designed homes can be risky, but there could be a big payoff
Independent Austin architects and designers are making footprints on the cityscape in thoughtful and fiercely original ways.
Drive down a street in Hyde Park lined with bungalows and you’ll probably find a modest jewel of a house tucked behind a tangle of trees.
Who built that? Who lives there? The unfussy lines and calm silhouette say modern, but the tawny limestone and rustic expression are pure Austin. The house is earthy and simple, yet sophisticated. It doesn’t shout, but it grabs your attention. (more…)
ARCHITECTURE students have sparked an Elgin Marbles- style row over an art collection worth millions of pounds.
They have shown how a derelict industrial building in Barry could be turned into a smaller version of the Tate Modern gallery in London to house some of the Davies Collection of paintings, drawings and sculpture.
But while the row over the Elgin Marbles involves two countries – Britain and Greece – at opposite ends of Europe, a dispute over the Davies Collection would involve places just nine miles apart. (more…)
