UNCONVENTIONAL architect Jean mic Perrine has come up with an audacious new idea – ready made, stackable, expandable pod homes.

The sign in the lobby says Perrine Architecture, Level 1. Step out of the lift and it’s not clear where to go next. Directly opposite is a trendy office furniture showroom and to the left, down the corridor is a simple, frosted glass door devoid of any clue as to what is behind it. Try the door and you find a typically stylish, minimalistic architects’ studio. The lack of signage is not a yet to be done job. (more…)

Allison Brown had lost steam decorating four months after moving into her family’s new home. Paintings and a wrought iron wall hanging sat on a floor.

“I tried doing it but needed help,” she said.

Brown didn’t want to hire interior decorators, who make commissions by recommending purchases, since she had just bought new furniture. So she called Diane Simpson and Dee Robertson of My Home At Last, an interior redesign consulting firm. (more…)

Rose Olson and her cousin Susan Haviland opened Poppy’s Home Decor and Piccadilly Square in Mesa a little over a year ago, tapping into an apparently long-held desire of shoppers for a stylish furniture and accessories business where you also can sit down have a bite to eat.

“Women can come in, shop a little, lunch, shop some more, and then have coffee and a bite of dessert,” Haviland said. “And some do.”

Within months of opening, the pair added 2,000 square feet, giving them 14,000 square feet of display space stuffed to the rafters with items such as wrought-iron window boxes, tin frames and decorative signs. (more…)
