A soft white wall colors with modern furniture and interior design is very delighting. Interior decorating ideas and inspiration can come from the furnishings you already have appointing your room. The loft includes a guest bedroom, a home entertainment center, an office, an open dining area, numerous cabinets and moving exhibition panels, so there is enough space to accommodate an evolving art collection. With a little creativity, you can decorate your apartment and make it your own home-sweet-home, even on a small budget. (more…)
Technology has given people the ability to work from home, and bosses are becoming more flexible as well.
Linda Coppolino doesn’t have to go very far to get to work each morning. It’s just a few steps to her office, a converted bedroom on the second floor of her home in Howell. In that room, Coppolino, owner of Little Hat Marketing & Design, has work on her mind.
“You can’t sit in your pajamas all day because it is a totally different mindset,” Coppolino said. “For me, it is a business. You are still working.” (more…)
Last July 20, participants of the Heritage Conservation symposium at the UST College of Architecture learned more about the state of Philippine architecture and history. They also had a chance to hear four decades worth of architectural experience from Arch. Maria Cristina Turalba, FUAP. A renowned heritage lover, environmental planner and academician, Turalba recently released her book, “Philippine Heritage Architecture before 1521 to the 1970s.”
Through a powerpoint presentation, the speaker even took the audience to an audio-visual tour of the archipelago: from Batanes, the home of the Ivatans and where the spirit of bayanihan (cooperation) remains alive; to the hometown of Carcar, Cebu, known to be the patron of St. Catherine of Alexandria, the makers of ampaw (sweetened rice crispy) and home of the refurbished Carcar District Hospital; and Jolo, land of the Badjaos and Islam. THE ANNEX
featureThe Annex apparently has one of the world’s highest concentrations of folks with PhDs; perhaps not coincidentally, it also has one of the highest concentrations of bars and patios in the city.
OLD STANDBYS Forget about a pub-crawl. You can spend a night at The Madison Avenue Pub (14 Madison Ave, 416-927-1722) doing a patio crawl. This monster pub is home to five different patios. Countless evenings have been spent hanging around the piano bar, listening to Ryan Luchuck sing.
Along with The Black Bull and The Wheat Sheaf, Ye Olde Brunswick House (481 Bloor W, 416-964-2242) is one of the oldest bars in the city. The place is over 120 years old. We know it has a rep as the place your parents drank at, but hey, you can’t beat beer and foosball. Now go buy your mom a pint. (more…)
