The rooftop patio is king in clubland. As each of the mega-boits seeks to outdo the others in decor and lineups stretching around the block, it’s the select few offering an urban oasis above the plebes below that rule the land of flashing lights and booming sound systems.

OLD STANDBYS Essence (287 Richmond W, 416-260-9898). The biggest draw to this oddly shaped corsair of a club is its bi-level runway-esque rooftop patio. Plenty of strutting to loud throbbing music happens here as the people show off for the Tonic crowd below and the hep cats across the street at Fez. (more…)
